Basil Morley achieved his childhood ambition to be a funeral director when he commenced work with a local firm at the age of 16. This early start gave Basil much experience, fully training him for what lay ahead.
In 1961, Basil and his wife, Betty, founded Morleys Funerals with the firm conviction that Townsville and the North needed a caring and committed funeral director. The Morleys Funerals tradition was born.
In those early days Basil and Betty were joined by Basil's brother, Cecil, along with Mr.Harold Carnes and the first funeral fleet consisted of an early model Ford hearse and a Holden sedan. Humble beginnings indeed.
The family tradition continued. In 1971 one of Basil's sons-in-law, Mr. Ray Valdeter, became a member of the firm, then, in 1975 Basil's and Betty's daughters, Lynette, Robyn and Margaret joined. Over the years other family members, Mike Maurice, Larry Newman, Bradley Richards along with Ray's sons Luke and Rhys have all become active members and make up what is now a third generation of local, family funeral directors.

With Cyclone Althea damage to the original Dearness Street location in 1971, and subsequent repairs, renovations and extensions, it was soon realized that a complete move was imminent. This led to the design and creation of one of Australia 's finest funeral homes situated in Morleys present location at The Lakes in Townsville.

Now Morleys Funerals have created the benchmark of excellence in funeral services and are now poised to cater for future growth and to continue with an even higher standard of service and dedication to the Townsville, Thuringowa and Northern communities.
